Daybill vs QuickBooks Time: keep QuickBooks for the books, skip the per-user bill.

Both track crew hours. QuickBooks Time (formerly TSheets) needs a QuickBooks Online plan and charges a base fee plus each user after the first admin: $120 a month on its Canadian page for an owner and nine crew on Premium. Daybill runs on its own, free for up to 10 counted seats or $39 CAD flat for up to 20 members, and the same approved hours load into the client invoice when you create it, with a QuickBooks Online export. We build Daybill, so the comparison below also says where QuickBooks Time is stronger.

The short answer

Daybill

Who Daybill fits

Crews that want scheduling, time, payroll totals and client invoices in one place, in English, Spanish or French, at a flat price, whether or not the books run in QuickBooks.

QuickBooks Time

Where QuickBooks Time is genuinely stronger

It comes from the same company as QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Payroll, so hours reach payroll without a file. It also has a mobile app, a time clock kiosk, project estimates vs actuals, mileage and timesheet signatures on Elite, and unlimited customer support.

Where the difference shows

No second subscription just to track time

QuickBooks Time only runs on top of a QuickBooks Online plan, and it bills a base fee plus every user. For an owner and nine crew members, its Canadian page lists $30 + 9 × $10 = $120 a month on Premium, before the QuickBooks Online plan. Daybill Team is $39 flat for up to 20 members, and Team Free covers up to 10 counted seats for $0.

Invoices come from the same approved hours

In Daybill, approving time updates payroll totals, and the same record loads into the client invoice when you create it. If your books live in QuickBooks Online, selected invoices export in its import format for Canada or the US, so billing doesn't start over in another tool.

Common questions

Does QuickBooks Time require QuickBooks Online, and does Daybill?

QuickBooks Time does: it works only with a QuickBooks Online plan, billed separately. Daybill does not; it runs on its own. If you keep your books in QuickBooks Online, Daybill exports selected invoices as a QuickBooks Online import CSV for Canada or the US.

How much does QuickBooks Time cost compared with Daybill?

On its Canadian page, QuickBooks Time Premium is $30 a month plus $10 per user and Elite is $55 plus $15 per user, with the first admin included. Those are list prices, before the required QuickBooks Online plan and without its introductory discount for the first 3 months. For an owner and nine crew members that is $120 a month on Premium ($30 + 9 × $10) or $190 on Elite ($55 + 9 × $15); at 20 people, $220 or $340. Daybill is $0 on Team Free, $39 CAD on Team, or $99 CAD on Expert with geofencing; Team stays $39 at 20 people and adds $1.50 per extra seat after that.

I pay my crew through QuickBooks Payroll. Should I switch?

Maybe not. QuickBooks Time sends hours to QuickBooks Payroll without a file. Daybill's QuickBooks payroll export is a CSV in QuickBooks Time's import format, so it is meant for teams that keep QuickBooks Time; there is also a Gusto import CSV and a generic CSV. If you run QuickBooks Payroll and want no files at all, QuickBooks Time is the simpler route. Daybill fits if you pay through Gusto or another provider, or want scheduling and invoicing in the same tool.

What does QuickBooks Time do better?

Same-vendor sync with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Payroll, a mobile app, a time clock kiosk, project estimates vs actuals, mileage tracking and timesheet signatures on Elite, unlimited customer support, and a long track record. If those decide it, QuickBooks Time is the stronger choice today.

Is QuickBooks Time the same as TSheets?

Yes. TSheets is the former name; Intuit now sells it as QuickBooks Time, and this page compares today's QuickBooks Time plans. It was reviewed on October 22, 2026, against QuickBooks Time's Canadian and US pricing pages. Intuit can change prices, discounts and plan contents, so confirm current rates on its site.
